Lead Speaker:
Samah Rafiq
Host:
Kildine de Saint Hilaire

Samah is a London-based painter who graduated with an MA in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art in 2024. Her practice is rooted in observation and philosophical research, with a focus on the seductive surfaces of consumerism, symbolism and social ritual. Drawing on thinkers like Baudrillard and Barthes, she builds her own visual language that is meticulous, textured and rich with contrast.

In this brave talk, Samah spoke to Kildine de Saint Hilaire about how her archive of street imagery, digital references and cultural iconography feeds into her studio practice. She shared her experience of navigating the transition from education to the professional art world, building resilience and asserting her process in the face of institutional critique.

Looking ahead, Samah is preparing for her second solo exhibition. This new body of work explores themes of spectacle, power and the aesthetics of weaponry. Her work continues to grow in scale and complexity, animated by her commitment to expanding her practice and making space for touchable, painterly realism.
