chapter three

Kenneth Winterschladen
Washington D.C, USA, 1993

Kenneth Winterschladen’s practice interrogates inner and outer phenomena on micro and macro scales. Motifs of the body, flora and fauna of his hometown on the Chesapeake Bay, and buildings and scenes from his life in London, are layered syntactically to examine regenerative systems, and where the passage of time can lead us. Emphasising the painting as an object, Kenneth works fluidly between elliptical and rectangular surfaces, with traces of these shapes echoed within their compositions.
